Success of Pakistan’s latest port city Gwadar

Pakistan’s latest and biggest venture the CPEC, has paved the way for economic prosperity and more importantly boosted the development of its prized port city known as Gwadar. Nearly a decade ago, when it was first decided to transform the small coastal fishing village into a deep-sea port, the development and work there was extremely slow, and it wasn’t given the attention it deserved.

With the inception of CPEC, the construction of the Gwadar Port was in its second phase. The second phase of Gwadar’s development is focusing on the advancement of all sectors. There are 3 additional berths under construction, a smart port city and construction of various connecting highways and roads.
The success of CPEC largely depends on how well is city of Gwadar, and its port is functioning. It also depends on the productivity of other cities that CPEC is going to pass through.

The Government is taking many steps to increase the industrial activity there. Especially focusing on attracting international investors, the government has set up duty free and tax free special industrial zones, north of Gwadar, with an area of 4000 hectares.

Now these industrial zones are going to be developing various small and medium scale industries like:

·         Agricultural goods manufacturing;
·         High tech machinery fabrication and plants for assembling;
·         Packaging and Processing;
·         Fish processing & canning;
·         Engineering& manufacturing;
·         Clothing & textile;
·         Flour mills and food items
·         Large cold storages.

GDA Newhousing scheme are garnering decent amount of attraction. The industrial activity has sparked a real estate boom and Gwadar property is popular as ever. Gwadar is as of now the most popular trading hub for property, in fact brokers are now booking land for sale and purchases that is not yet developed but planned to in the future.

Various investors are being encouraged to invest in industrial lands, in the special industrial zones and purchasing commercial property in housing schemes, which are being offered in affordable payment plans. These activities are specifically being carried out to build up Gwadar in to the cosmopolitan city it is planned to be, because the success of CPEC is directly proportional to Gwadar’s development.
